Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last year, you’ve probably heard the hype surrounding the relatively new company, CPALead.  They’re one of the most talked-about affiliate companies in the space today because of their innovative approach to getting leads and the outstanding support and attention they pay to their publishers and advertisers.

CPALead offers a “Premium Content Gateway,” which is essentially a javascript overlay covering an area of your site that restricts access—unless the visitor performs a certain action. In plainer terms, a site visitor must complete an advertiser’s offer in order to access the best parts of your site. These offers are usually surveys or email-submits that range in length from 1 page to upwards of 10 pages before the pixel fires. Some site owners use the gateway to restrict access to TV shows or movies and other site owners on proxy or downloads sites. This method of collecting ad revenue even works on a simple blog that contains information desirable enough for a visitor to complete an offer to gain access.

Because of its size, CPALead has been able to consistently get higher payouts for campaigns than the other gateway companies that have popped up — such as Adscend, Leadbolt and InstantDollarz — which has of course lead to CPALead getting even more publishers…hence the hype surrounding the company. In November 2008 they had just over 8000 publishers; as of November 2009 they had over 40000. That’s some serious year-over-year growth! [Read Edit Below for Updated Information]

Some have complained that CPALead’s payouts per lead are lower than some other networks who have the same offers, but CPALead’s CVO, Troy Krzyston, explains that the conversion percentage at CPALead is much higher, thus leaving the publishers with a much higher EPC than they would otherwise get.  We know, of course, that EPC is what really matters in this affiliate marketing world.

CPALead gets five stars in our rating of its timely payouts.  They offer wires, ACH, Paypal, and checks, and at a relatively low threshold ($1000/month) offer more frequent payout terms.

UPDATE 8/5/2010: CPALead has recently begun a purge of publishers who were not active or who did any sort of fake content. Also, they have begun removing peoples’ accounts who have copyrighted material on their pages without permission from the copyright owners. There has been some backlash, but CPALead believes it will be for the better of the industry as a whole, so they’re going forward with the decision. That said, if you have joined through us before, you may want to do it again, as all of our referrals were removed during the purge — including one of our writers (for inactivity)!
